I don't think we chose to be defensive in this one, just that Liverpool stopped us from being more offensive by snuffing out many of our attacks before they happened. Down to our insufficiently good passing rather than our tactics.

I think a few other posters have made this point more eloquently below.

Suspect Liverpool didn't show Brighton as much respect tonight.

Exactly simon... we are in cracking form and red scouse aint ontop of a load of injuries... we could have had a real go at them... if Burnley and Brighton can turn them over at Anfield then we could have at least turned up... said i hope it was a blip back on track after tonight...no fear... go out and play

The concern for me is that this has echoes of previous seasons where momentum on the pitch was not maintained due to a lack of funds or refusal to spend .
You simply cannot afford to stand still in this league .
Some money to spend in this window could have ensured we bought players who would cement a Europa spot . Get in there , do reasonably well and you are attractive to better players .
I fear we could very easily start to thread water as the season goes on due to the limitations and age profile of this squad .

the fans , players and manager all were disappointed with the display against Liverpool.

I think we all got caught up in the pundits talk be fore the game , Klopp out smart ed us all

Henderson has played as centre back a few times now and the other centre back last time he played got MOTM.

but as other said the liverpool team just didn't let us get any where near their defence for us to even challenge.

Think it just went wrong for us.

Moyes should be disappointed being ex Everton..

Difficult to impose on their weaknesses when they kept the ball so well and pressed us into nervy passing and stopping us from playing our game. I didn't get the short corners though, seemed pointless but maybe to try to prevent what happened for their 2nd goal.

Not sure I understand the beaten before we started comments!?
Team selection was our strongest and what most predicted / wanted.

We did OK 1st half, yes we didn’t get much ball, but they didn’t make many opportunities either for all their possession. I would actually say we had slightly better opportunities and had their defense in a mess a couple of times.
Yes 2nd was bad, Salah was too good in the end.

This game to me just came at the wrong time and it's where you need a decent squad, we had no way of freshening it up or adding any hunger to our play, it seems we were like Liverpool after them giving Palace that tonking, we've kind of done the same, and everyone talks about this being Liverpools weakest team but these blokes on the sidelines are fucking eager to play themselves into the history books.

It's a fucking shame but it would be inevitable that a small squad with a decent team would eventually suffer a (hopefully) mini slump.

This window whatever the finances was the chance to bring some legs and mid season impetus but instead like that Payet season we won't be able to push upwards and onwards.

I'm more pissed off with the bigger picture that guarantees us these performances against the top clubs we just don't have options.

In one... I don't mind losing if we ahve given it a real go... that was a nothing performance yesterday... passing was shit... Antonio (who was crap) no support... LFC are not the team they was last season... not in the best form ... injuries all over the board... Henderson and a novice at centre back... we could have had a real go at them... real chance... but we had fuck all... zilch. Lets hope it's a blot as that was fucking muck

Or at least in the first 5 minutes. We let them play the game on their term, focusing on their strengths. We should have imposed ourselves on their weaknesses.

SOH - First half, we were very very panicky when we got on the ball, we literally reverted to the old days of trying to lump it forwards for Antonio to get onto, the passing was shit and just looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

When we had some sustained pressure, they looked brittle. As much as the manager I'm sure at half time would have been quite pleased at how things were going in a sense we weren't losing I'm sure he'd have said to go have a go.
